Edits Infused With an Autumnal Touch

Yes, it’s a big, scary step and I won’t pretend otherwise! But it’s also an essential one.

The good news is, you’ve already endured the blinking cursor, persevered through endless writing hours, and consumed the countless cups of coffee or tea (or wine) that come with it. You’ve completed the unparalleled task of writing an entire book (or close to!) — and I’m certainly not here to undo your hard work or change your vision.

Rather, I’ll help you rake up the distractions, polish each sentence, and let every word serve its purpose. Like a fall sky that comes to life as the sun dips below the horizon, your story will become impossible for your readers to turn their gaze away from.

Regardless of whether this is your first go at self-publishing or you’re as seasoned of a writer as they come, I’ll provide support, guidance, and encouragement every step of the way.

The time has come to put your work
in the hands of an experienced editor.

"When you're editing, you want to be the perfect appreciator, not another writer."

Developmental Editing

Get in Touch

Every powerful story starts with strong bones: structure, pacing, character arcs, themes, worldbuilding. This is where we dig deep—into the heart of your story—to uncover what’s working, what needs strengthening, and how to bring your narrative into its fullest, truest shape.

This stage is not about grammar or sentence-level changes (we’ll get to that later!). Instead, it’s about asking the big questions:
• Is the conflict compelling?
• Do the characters feel authentic and dynamic?
• Does the plot grip your reader from page one and carry them through to the end?
• Are there any areas where the worldbuilding needs strengthened?
• Is the pacing okay for this specific scene?

INCLUDES:
• A detailed editorial letter highlighting strengths, opportunities for growth, and actionable suggestions
• In-manuscript comment bubbles focused on big-picture elements like structure, pacing, emotional resonance, and character development
• A book map—a reverse outline that tracks what happens in each chapter—to help you see how the story flows and spot any gaps or imbalances

WHAT'S THE PROCESS LIKE?
A developmental edit with me is collaborative, honest, and kind. This is your space to explore, to question, and to grow your story without judgment. I’m not here to dictate changes or impose a formula. I’m here to help you understand what’s working beautifully, what might need more shaping, and how to bridge any gaps while staying true to your voice and vision.
You’ll receive a detailed editorial letter packed with insights, reflections, and suggestions—not a list of corrections, but a map of possibilities. I’ll also leave comment bubbles in your manuscript, gently guiding you through areas that shine, as well as moments that may benefit from more clarity, depth, or tension.
There’s always room for dialogue. I know how vulnerable this stage can feel, and I’ll always hold your story with care. Whether you’re on a messy second draft or nearing the finish line with a third or fourth, developmental editing is about helping your story reach its full potential—with guidance that feels like a conversation, not a lecture.

BEST FOR:
Authors who’ve finished an early draft, incorporated feedback from beta readers, and are now ready for professional, in-depth guidance. This stage is ideal if you want to refine your plot, develop your characters further, strengthen worldbuilding, or ensure that the emotional core of your story is coming through clearly. If you're feeling unsure about structure, pacing, or whether everything is working as it should—this is the step that brings clarity and momentum.

Line & Copyediting

WHAT'S THE PROCESS LIKE:
This is where your manuscript gets its polish. I’ll go through your work carefully and closely, line by line, tightening what’s loose, smoothing what’s bumpy, and gently elevating what’s already strong—think: ironing your favourite shirt, not remaking the outfit. You’ll receive your manuscript fully marked up in Tracked Changes, along with comments explaining why each change was made—so you’re never left guessing. I’ll also provide a style sheet to help you keep track of spelling choices, formatting, and narrative decisions, ensuring your manuscript is as clean and cohesive as possible.
This stage is collaborative and precise. You’ll still be in full control of your voice and choices, but with expert support to make sure every word is working as hard as it can.

BEST FOR:
Authors who’ve already completed structural revisions (like a developmental edit or self-led rewrite) and are ready for a professional second pair of eyes. It’s perfect if your story is solid but you want help with clarity, flow, voice, and technical precision. If you’re ready to bring your manuscript to a polished, submission-ready (or self-publishing-ready!) level—this is the step for you.

WHAT'S THE PROCESS LIKE?
Line editing is an immersive, collaborative experience. I’ll read your manuscript closely, marking up the text using Tracked Changes and leaving comments that explain the why behind every suggestion. My focus is on making your writing clearer, stronger, and more engaging—without rewriting your voice out of the story.

You’ll also receive a personalised editorial letter highlighting the strengths in your craft and any patterns that may be holding your prose back. My goal is to help you feel confident not only in this manuscript, but in your skills moving forward.

BEST FOR:
Writers who’ve completed their developmental edits and are happy with the story’s structure, but want to strengthen their prose. It’s ideal for authors preparing to query agents or self-publish who want a professional line-level polish to ensure every word supports the story’s heart and pacing.

Line Editing

Get in Touch

Your manuscript is in strong shape—you’ve built a compelling plot, developed strong characters, and crafted prose with purpose. Now it’s time to elevate your prose to its fullest potential. Line editing is where your story gets its rhythm, its clarity, and its shine—without compromising your unique voice.

This is where we focus on how your story is told, line by line. I’ll work with you to elevate your prose, ensuring that every sentence flows, every paragraph supports the tone, and your reader stays emotionally connected from start to finish.

INCLUDES:
• A detailed review of sentence and paragraph structure
• Suggestions for tightening prose, improving rhythm, and enhancing clarity
• Feedback on dialogue, pacing, and emotional flow
• Notes on repetition, redundancies, tonal shifts, and awkward phrasing
• An editorial letter explaining recurring patterns, strengths, and suggested areas of improvement

WHAT'S THE PROCESS LIKE?
Copyediting isn’t a deep clean—it’s the final tidy-up before company arrives. I’ll go through your manuscript line by line, using Tracked Changes to correct technical errors and offer inline comments where a phrase could use a tweak. I’ll also keep a style sheet updated along the way—especially useful if you’re working with a proofreader next or publishing a series.
At this point, your manuscript should already be structurally sound. Copyediting won’t reshape your story—it will refine and neaten it, ensuring everything holds together before you move on.

BEST FOR:
Writers who’ve already completed line editing and are preparing for publication. This is the penultimate step—the technical tidy-up before proofreading. If your story’s solid and your prose has already been refined, copyediting ensures your manuscript is polished, precise, and consistent before the final round of edits.

Copyediting

Get in Touch

Your manuscript is nearly ready to meet the world. You’ve done the heavy lifting—now it’s time for a focused pass to catch lingering errors, smooth inconsistencies, and make sure nothing pulls the reader out of your story.

Copyediting ensures your manuscript is refined and consistent before you move into final proofreading. It focuses on the technical details—grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting—while lightly checking sentence structure and clarity.

INCLUDES:
• A comprehensive review of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax
• Suggestions for improving sentence structure and flow where clarity can be enhanced
• Light feedback on inconsistencies in tone, style, or internal logic
• A style sheet to track editorial decisions—like capitalisation, hyphenation, and spelling—for consistency in your final proof

WHAT'S THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
This is your manuscript’s final once-over before it reaches readers. I’ll go through the document line by line, making quiet, careful corrections. I’ll keep your voice and formatting decisions intact, following the style sheet provided during earlier editing stages (or creating one if needed). This is not the time for rewrites or big changes—just small, essential fixes that ensure your book looks polished and professional.

You’ve done the heavy lifting. Proofreading ensures nothing distracts from the story you’ve worked so hard to tell.

BEST FOR:
Authors who’ve completed all previous stages of editing (including line and/or copyediting), have formatted their novel, and are ready to publish. This is the final pass for typos, technical errors, and formatting issues—perfect for ensuring your manuscript is clean, consistent, and publication-ready, whether you're querying, self-publishing, or submitting to a small press.

Proofreading

Get in Touch

Your manuscript is nearly ready to meet the world. You’ve revised, refined, and had it professionally edited—and now you need a final set of professional eyes to catch any lingering errors before publication.

Proofreading is the last step—ideally completed after formatting your manuscript. It’s a careful review of your manuscript focused on spotting typos, correcting grammar and punctuation errors, and ensuring consistent formatting throughout. It’s not about rewriting or reworking—it’s about clarity, confidence, and finishing strong—like one final lint-brush swipe before your story steps onto the stage.

INCLUDES:
• A final check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors
• A review of formatting for consistency (including paragraph spacing, indents, and punctuation style)
• Light flagging of any obvious inconsistencies in style, names, or timeline (if spotted)

Eilidh is absolutely amazing! Not only does she have a beautiful personality and made me comfortable when we first spoke, but she provided detailed feedback. Her response was quick, clear, precise, and incredibly helpful. She helped me edit some of my university papers for an English course and her edits - as well as her notes and advice - were insightful and helped me feel more confident about my final work.

Eilidh is an outstanding editor. She senses where the writer is going with the story and makes suggestions on how to improve copy without sacrificing voice. Her comments address both writing structure and story continuity, allowing the writer an objective lens through which to revise their work. She is very pleasant and agreeable, but straightforward in what she has to say. One gets the feeling she is on your team and wants to see your writing ready for readers.

Eilidh is the only editor I will work with. She is kind, attentive, and above all, brilliant. She is honest when it comes to giving me an outlook that I never saw coming, a friend when I need it, and she has an eye for making my story better than it was even in my own imagination.

Eilidh returned my manuscript to me this morning and it's clear that I have a thing or two to learn about commas! I was pretty confident that she wouldn't find any errors, as I had printed out my whole manuscript and gone over it with a fine tooth comb, but Eilidh managed to not only spot some spelling errors, but also where I had missed a full-stop from the end of a couple of sentences, not used a capital letter and put semicolons in the wrong place. She has turned my manuscript from an okay piece of work into something wonderful that I am proud of.

I needed someone to read over the rules of a new game I devised before it went on sale. As these could be complex to explain, it was important they made sense on the first reading to someone with no prior knowledge of the gameplay. Chaptered Vine Studio carefully checked the document for inconsistencies and ambiguities, so I can now sell the product knowing the rules are as clear as they can be.
